SXSW Music 2012 Day 2
Day 2 starts at the Fader Fort, as many SXSW days do, for free drinks. Last year the Fader Fort was so crowded and the bar lines were so long, it was maddening. There was none of that this year. Thrasher’s Death Match is a short walk away at the Scoot Inn, and we arrive in time to see Andrew WK and Danny Brown.
After Death Match we meet Jessica from Co-Sign for an impromptu happy hour before heading to the Manitoba Music showcase at the famous Maggie Mae’s for Tim “DJ Co-op” Hoover’s performance.
SXSW is not complete without seeing Mike 2600 at Burlesque’s Do It To It party.
It’s always held at Silhouette, a sushi restaurant.
Black Hippy‘s showcase is at Clive Bar. Ab-Soul and ScHoolboy Q impress but Kendrick Lamar doesn’t appear before it’s time to get to Barbarella Patio for one of Serg’s picks, Dallas thrash band Power Trip. On our way we run into Murs who, along with his lovely wife, assure us that Kendrick IS in the area.
After the crowd at Power Trip trashes the patio at Barbarella, Serg joins me for Lee Ving and Fear at Red 7, where we end our night.
