SXSW Music 2012 Day 3

March 28, 2012    Events    No Comments »

On day 3, there most of the afternoon was well-spent at Thrasher Death Match.

Most days we hung tough like New Kids on the Block with our homie Diane.

The lineup at Death Match was ridiculous as you can see here. Friday afternoon we caught Ceremony, ampoule Trash Talk, OFF! and San Francisco bands Deafheaven and Black Cobra.

Lee Spielman of Trash Talk levitated above the crowd.

Deafheaven

Deafheaven sounded incredible.

I made it a point to see Paul Wall at the Mexican American Cultural Center and he was on the outdoor stage with DJ Michael “5000” Watts. They did all the hits, including “Sittin’ Sideways” to which one the mostly local audience members lifted his Sprite bottle filled with purple liquid.

We continued on to an overcrowded Clive Bar to see Grimes. It’s been interesting to watch her blow up here since the year before when she made keyboard magic before a relatively small crowd. She went on a bit late and unfortunately her mic didn’t work.

We made the trek from Rainey Street to Club DeVille to catch Juicy J. Serg meets Beautiful Lou, who cosigns the Stay Hatin’ podcast.

Beautiful Lou

Juicy J is adorable. Kristin “Calamari” made a mistake. (That’s a “Hollyhood” reference.)

Lee and Serg climbed on cables and kicked people in the head.
