With the recent reports of the legendary Sly Stone living in a camper, I’ve been looking back on his career which included DJing on Bay Area radio station KSOL in the mid- to late-’60s.

This clip is from early in The Battle at Mighty, which began with Premier playing Pete Rock productions and Pete Rock playing Premier’s, which best believe included plenty of Gang Starr and Pete Rock & CL Smooth classics. Premier played A.D.O.R.’s “Let It All Hang Out,” which is one of my favorites but not recognized by most of the young crowd.
It’s a DJ Premier weekend in SF
Tonight it’s Premier vs. Pete Rock in The Battle at Mighty. This show is sold out and there’s no guest list. Mighty’s gonna be packed!
Then tomorrow night the monthly Foundation party at SOM welcomes Premier to celebrate Mr. E’s birthday.
